About the department
B.Sc. Biotechnology is a three-year course, in six semesters, on living things and biological systems and the technology used to study them. The department builds students’ knowledge and research curiosity, and prepares them for work in drug and pharmaceutical research, environmental control and waste management.
Teaching combines lab work with short certificate courses taught by people from industry (horticulture, plant propagation, biofertilisers, garden design and plantation methods). An internship or industrial visit is part of the course, and students are encouraged to take online courses such as medical coding and Naan Mudhalvan courses. The department also has MoUs with industry.
